Assignment#13 -10

I analyzed " Why Marijuana should be legalized". While analyzing my peers essay i noticed that it had a confident tone to it. The narrator was really informed about his topic and knew what he was talking about. He gave strong points in the essay and made me go through mines to see if i had any strong statements that i should add. I learned from analyzing this essay because it showed me how to also use some of my knowledge in it and to know how to back up your points.

Assignment #12-10

• The most compelling evidence that i wrote on my paper is that when turning the age of 18 we are considered adults. We are given the right to vote that can make change, we are given the legal right to buy cigarettes, we have the ability to serve on juries, we have the ability to get married, and even to serve our country and join the military and we cannot have the right to drink an alcoholic beverage at 18. We are pretty mature by the time we hit 18 because not only are we graduating high school but are getting ready to start our first year in college.

Assignment #11-10

• In my previous essays now that i look back at, I noticed that I tend to use the word "They" so much that myself couldn't go on reading my own paper. For example i use, "They are" or "they always", "they" and plenty of other ones. Using this word more than once i every paragraph makes me look like i don't know who i'm writing about or what. I also seem to go off topic and start to talk about something else irrelevant to the topic i should originally be talking about. Those are the two most important things i think i should really build up my strength in and hopefully my papers in the end will come back with a good grade.

Assignment #10 -10

Peer review we do in class is effective in my opinion. It has improved my writing in previous papers for the class and i hope it helps me to improve my writing skills and take them to a further extent. My strength as a peer reviewer is that i try to give the other person the best review i can about their paper so that they can learn from peer review and have a good experience with it and would be able to give good feedback from it.  I find it extremely helpful to do peer review because i can see the mistakes i did that i probably would have never found myself. Smaller groups have a more significant effective because you dont have to feel so uncomfortable with so many people in your group. Two people per group is perfect. One more day of peer review would have a deeper impact on the results of final drafts.

Assignment #9 -10

Of the three assignments that we have worked on so far I think that the one we are currently doing now is the hardest. Reason why is because from my understanding we have to write a paper of us arguing against one of the three topics given. The easiest assignment would have to be the advertisement analysis where we get the chance to choose an ad to analyze and break it down to see what they are trying to say or what type of message they are trying to give to their audience.

My largest goal for right now would be getting through all of my Gen. Ed classes. The classes im taking now are a requirement to finish my general education classes. I am still undecided on what major because it is really difficult for me to stick to one major. I have ideas on what i want my future to be like. I have even thought to myself if nothing goes well ill join the Marines or the Army. But that is my Last Resort.

I have really enjoyed meeting new people that come from different back rounds and learning all the new way and compare how teachers are compared to instructors and professors. I would have to say that meeting new people was the best part. I have enjoyed my past classes at NEIU in some ways but i cant complain about it because Learning isn't always fun.

Assignment #8- 10

Out of all of the articles i choose to write about "Free speech outside of campus must be protected". But i will be honest, i have no clue what the article is trying to get at. Seems like they are writing and writing and i dont find anything so arguable about it. Seems to advanced for me and i cant seem to come up with anything. But What seems interesting about this article is how a student actually forwarded the post to the authorities. And how Tatro joked around about her lab class and how they stabbed someone with a knife. This caught my attention more than the other topics because i can relate to it more. Not because ive ever done it before but because it talks about college in some ways.

Assignment #7 -10

Well first  would like to say that this class is pretty difficult for me to understand. I do enjoy the whole blogging idea but i have been having trouble  with writing the essays and understanding the assignments. i complete them but im never sure if im doing them right. So i would like for the assignments to be cutted down into more clear  and understandable details. My writing process has changed for the better since i first started this semester. It has improved in some ways but i know that i can improve even more. I do participate more in this class than anyother class i have. Because i am determined to learn more. i feel like if i participate more in class i will understand the assignments coming up up and i try to understand. Some words that are used in this class i am not familiar with and i think thats the reason why i get lost half way into class. Other than that i do not have any problem with this class and i do look forward to go go through it the entire semester.

Assignment #6 -10

My ad analysis is different from my literacy narrative. I use a different way to write my ad analysis this time. In my literacy narrative I softly went into the subject of how i learned to speak English. In my ad analysis i jumped right into the subject getting to the point of the essay. These choices do affect my writing because i am using different ways to write my papers.

Assignment #5 - 10

Purpose- is to get young married women to take their vitamins to stay active during cleaning at home and keep her happy.
Audience- is young married women.
Tone- is a type of Energized, its positive and strong.
Genre- is mostly Visual and has Text on the advertisement.
Media- the media is from the 1930's and has a type of Drawn photo.
Context- has big context to try to  get the message out loud and clear.

Assignment 4

My Final paper indeed does look a bit more different from my first draft. There is more explaining and more detail that i had to write from the comments my peer had wrote. Many revisions were made, the organization i had before was not too organized but i managed to make it more understanding. After revising my paper i was able to see the errors I wrote. When I read over them i would think to myself " Did i really write that?" Now with the peer review i am able to fix my essay into a better one. Peer Review is when a student or classmate proof reads your paper and fixes errors that you made and explains to you ways you can enhance your paper and make it better than the first draft. I think my introduction is the strongest part of my paper. The body would be the second strongest. Reason why is because i feel like i have a good attention grabber. and i feel like i explained well in my intro what my essay will be about.

Writing an "A" Paper - 10

Hook-To write an "A" paper in my opinion you have to start the paper off strong. Writing the very first sentence in a way that will want the reader to keep going. Not only does your Hook have to be strong but the rest of your paper as well. The introduction is a very important part of your paper because it contains your hook, Thesis statement and prepares the reader for what their about to read.


Vocabulary- Vocabulary is another important piece of writing a great paper. It shows that whomever wrote it has great vocabulary skills and in a way educate the reader because adding context clues will educate the audience. I myself try to use words like synonyms or related words in my writing. (See how i just did that! Context Clues! lol) 


Repetition- Avoiding repetition is one way to avoid getting a "C" letter grade. Try to avoid repeating words or phrases. I catch myself repeating a lot of words and I try to switch words up. There are many ways to avoid repetition in your paper. One important way is to try to add little pieces of information to prevent repeating sentences. These are the three ways to avoid getting a "C". I hope they help!

Assignment 2- 10

For my first topic I came up with the time when in elementary school every sixth grade class we were given the chance to come up and write our own story. It was called Young Authors. We also had to illustrate our stories. It was very difficult for me to write a story because i had so many ideas in mind. I wanted to write the story that would win the competition and be posted on a billboard in our hallways.

For my second topic I would like to write about my Senior Year in High School when the end of the year approached they prepared us to write an 11 page research paper. We went from getting resources  to making a powerpoint . The research paper decided whether you graduated or not. Its just something every Senior goes through in my High School.

For my last topic i would like to write about my Last semester in my writing class i wrote about why the US should not re-institute the Draft for war. it came out to be three pages long and received an A for the paper. I was very satisfied with the results because that paper was first written with a first draft, then it was proof read and the results of it i received an A.

Why im taking Writing 101-10

The reason why I am taking this class is to enhance my writing skill. To learn more ways to write a better paper. Ever since Elementary School where we all started learning to write short summaries, from summaries to essays, I was that kid who always had trouble knowing what to write. I was the one who would peek over to your friends paper to see what they were writing about. I was also the one who stared at their blank sheet of paper while you heard everyones pencil tips writing away. Now that I am in College and attend a University I want to push myself to learn and pick up techniques that will help enhance my papers.
Writing, to me, is a very important thing we should all know. Everyday we use some type of writing such as writing a letter, posting a status on facebook or posting a tweet on twitter. We all write everyday whether we realize it or not. In our future you never know if we'll need it. Like writing out a prescription or a doctors note for your patient. Writing down a complaint that witness or victim wants to  report. There is writing all around us and I want to enhance and keep my skills alive by taking this course.
